Avoiding Dryer Fires

Help avoid dryer vent fires by following these helpful tips:

Don’t operate a dryer without a lint screen.
Clean loose lint and debris from behind the dryer.
Make sure your vent piping is as strong as possible and well connected.
Make sure that the venting is continuous from the dryer to the outside.
Don’t dry anything that has been exposed to flammable liquids.
Replace plastic, aluminum, or vinyl transition hoses; also any kinked venting.
Hire a licensed appliance repair person to clean the interior of the dryer occasionally.
Remove any screen covering the exhaust vent.
Read the manufacturer’s manual and make sure the installation complies with it. If it does not, insurance and/or warranty coverage might not apply.
Have a professional clean and inspect your dryer and vents at least once every year or two. This is especially so when you notice an increase in your drying time
Finally, follow the instructions listed on your appliance label.

"We had a small chimney fire so we decided to have our chimney inspected and cleaned. Able Sweeps came out and did the job quickly and were very knowledgeable. They took the time to explain some important points about the use of our fire place that can help extend its life and our enjoyment of it. We will definitely use them again and recommend them to others."
